Nice to Meet You!

Maddy Derrick, LCSW

Hi, I’m Maddy (she/her)!

I am a play therapist who deeply believes in the magic of play and the power it holds to help kids feel seen, safe and strong.

I work with children and their families to navigate big feelings, tricky behaviors and all the ups and downs that come with growing up. In my playroom, kids don’t have to sit still or find the right words - they are welcome just as they are and able to communicate in the way they know best: through play.

I specialize in child-centered play therapy, which means your child leads the way while I support their growth, confidence, and ability to cope with all life may throw their way. My approach is gentle, non-judgemental and tailored with your child and family’s strengths in mind.

As a therapist, I partner with parents because I know that healing does not happen in isolation. I am here to walk alongside your family, offering guidance, tools and encouragement as you support your child’s journey.

I became a play therapist because I have always been drawn to the inner worlds of children - their honesty, their creativity and their resilience. I hold a Master’s degree in social work and a graduate certificate in play therapy. I also am trained in other evidence-based approaches, such as EMDR and TF-CBT.

Raising a child truly takes a village, and I am beyond honored to get to be a small part of yours.

I specialize in working with people ages 3+ and their family systems. I am trained in multiple approaches of play therapy, including Child-Centered Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Training, Expressive Arts Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy. I am also trained in multiple evidence-based trauma therapies, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I specialize in working with children and families who have had DSS involvement as well as adoptees. I have extensive experience working with different child welfare programs, inculding Youth and Family Services, Guardian ad Litem programs and non-profit organizations.
